Bats! The Creatures Of The Night...

What is a Bat?

Bats are mammals and they are the only mammal born with an amazing ability. They can fly!  Bats have webbed wings, similar to your hands!  This makes them the only mammals naturally capable of true and sustained flight.

Did you know that there are over 1,200 types of bats in the world?  Don’t let that frighten you! Most bats eat fruit, flower nectar and insects!  In fact, one single bat can eat over 1000 mosquitos in an hour!  Bats vary in sizes ranging from a bat that you might confuse as a bumble bee, known as the Bumblebee Bat, to the Flying Fox Bat with a giant wing span that reaches nearly 6 feet!
