We Spent 24 Hours Hunting Bigfoot in Oregon

“We came looking for Bigfoot. We left with more questions than answers.”

There are a lot of ways to spend a weekend.

You could relax at home. Go to the movies. Maybe even take a normal camping trip.

Instead, we packed thermal cameras, night vision goggles, flashlights, a Bigfoot call, enough marshmallows to feed a small army, and headed deep into Oregon’s forests to spend 24 hours searching for one of America’s greatest mysteries.

Crazy? Absolutely. Worth it? We’ll let you decide.

But before we ever stepped foot into the woods, we had three questions we wanted answered:

• Is Bigfoot actually real?
• Could we find any evidence ourselves?
• And with all the technology we have today, why hasn’t anyone captured undeniable proof?

By the end of the trip, we didn’t have every answer. But we definitely had a story.

Why This Forest?

If you’ve ever searched for Bigfoot sightings in the United States, you’ve probably noticed one region keeps coming up over and over again: the Pacific Northwest — and Oregon specifically, which is exactly where we ended up.

That’s because this area has been home to thousands of reported sightings over the years. Dense forests, rugged mountains, and millions of acres of wilderness make it one of the most famous places in the world for Bigfoot legends. During our research before filming, we even learned that many people estimate there have been more than 10,000 reported Bigfoot sightings throughout the region.

Whether you believe those reports or not, one thing becomes obvious the moment you arrive. The forest is enormous.

Standing there, surrounded by towering trees in every direction, it’s surprisingly easy to understand why people say something could stay hidden out there for years.

The Bigfoot Facts That Surprised Us

Before filming, we spent hours researching Bigfoot folklore and the investigations that have fascinated people for decades. Here are a few things we learned that we couldn’t stop talking about during the trip.

Bigfoot footprints are HUGE

Many reported tracks measure anywhere from 15 to 24 inches long. Even more interesting, some investigators claim the prints contain tiny skin patterns called dermal ridges, similar to fingerprints, which believers argue would be extremely difficult to fake.

Why investigators knock on trees

If you’ve ever watched a Bigfoot documentary, you’ve probably seen someone hitting trees with a stick. There’s actually a reason. Many researchers believe tree knocks may be a form of communication between Sasquatches. Whether that’s true is still debated, but we decided we had to try it ourselves.

Why every video is blurry

This became one of our biggest questions. With drones, thermal cameras, satellites, and phones that shoot 4K video, why does every supposed Bigfoot video still look like it was filmed on a potato? That question stayed with us the entire adventure.

Welcome to Our Treehouse

Our home for the night wasn’t exactly a luxury resort. It was a tiny Bigfoot-themed treehouse tucked into the woods.

There was one main bed, a loft that instantly made us question our life choices, Bigfoot decorations everywhere, and just enough space for four people to panic together if something started scratching outside.

Of course, it didn’t take long before we started making jokes. Bella looked around and basically decided she could never live in a tiny house. Someone pointed out that if anyone needed the bathroom during the night, there was a decent chance we’d hear them fall out of the loft first.

Confidence was high. At least while the sun was still up.

Exploring Before Dark

Daylight has a funny way of making everything feel less scary.

We explored the property on UTVs, found a hidden little cabin tucked into the woods, tried archery (where Scarlett turned out to be suspiciously good), and even found what looked like an unusually large footprint in the dirt.

Was it Bigfoot? Probably not. But once you’re already thinking about Bigfoot, your imagination starts working overtime.

We also came across a tiny cabin with a scavenger hunt, strange objects, and enough creepy vibes to convince ourselves we were starring in our own mystery movie.

Then the Sun Went Down

Everything changed.

The exact same trails we’d laughed our way through during the afternoon suddenly felt completely different. Every sound seemed louder. Every shadow looked suspicious. Every glowing pair of eyes in the distance suddenly became “definitely Bigfoot.”

Spoiler alert: most of those glowing eyes were probably deer. Did that stop us from yelling for Dad to drive faster? Not even a little.

Our Bigfoot Gear

This wasn’t a flashlight-and-hope-for-the-best investigation. We brought:

• Thermal camera
• Night vision viewer
• Flashlights
• Bigfoot call
• Tree-knocking equipment

The thermal camera quickly became everyone’s favorite gadget. Watching body heat light up in bright colors made us feel like professional paranormal investigators. Unfortunately, Bigfoot never showed up to pose for the camera.

The Creepiest Part Wasn’t What We Heard

It was what we didn’t hear.

At one point during the investigation, everything became unusually quiet. No birds. Very few insects. Just us standing in complete darkness.

Whether there was a perfectly normal explanation or not, silence has a strange way of making your brain imagine every possible scenario. That’s the moment the forest felt biggest. And honestly, that’s when our confidence disappeared.

The Story That Stayed With Us

Earlier that evening, we talked about one of the most famous Bigfoot stories ever told.

In 1924, miners working near what’s now known as Ape Canyon reported being surrounded by mysterious creatures that threw large rocks at their cabin throughout the night. The story spread across newspapers and helped turn Ape Canyon into one of the most famous Bigfoot locations in America.

Whether the story is fact, folklore, or something in between, hearing it while sitting around a campfire in the middle of the woods definitely made our imaginations work overtime.

Did We Find Bigfoot?

No. Did we hear strange noises? Absolutely. Could we explain every single one? Not really.

Between distant howls, glowing eyes, tapping sounds during the night, and the sheer size of the forest, it was easy to understand why Bigfoot stories continue to capture people’s imagination.

So… Is Bigfoot Real?

After spending 24 hours searching, our answers were surprisingly similar to where we started. We still don’t know.

Maybe Bigfoot exists. Maybe there’s a perfectly logical explanation for every story. Or maybe the biggest reason people keep searching is because places like this remind us that there are still mysteries left in the world.

And honestly, that’s kind of what makes adventures like this so much fun.
